Pollen Season is Back: Don’t let the dust settle on your vehicle!

It’s not just about looking good anymore but it’s about how you feel…and how your car feels.

Florida is known for its year-round warm weather, but springtime in the Sunshine State brings a new set of challenges, particularly for car owners. Pollen season in Florida typically lasts from February to May, with the peak occurring in March and April. During this time, washing your car regularly becomes even more critical to protect your vehicle from the effects of pollen.

Pollen is produced by plants as part of their reproductive process. It is carried by the wind and can land on your car's exterior, leaving a yellowish-green residue. Not only is it unflattering, but it can cause damage to your car's exterior if left on the vehicle. Pollen can accumulate on your car's surface, and over time, that will eat away at the clear coat protecting your paint. This is why it’s important to bring your car to the car wash!

You might be wondering, “why is my clear coat important?” When a car is manufactured, the paint is applied in several layers to the vehicle’s body. After the paint is applied, a clear coat goes over it to provide shine, luster and protection of that colored paint. When a foreign substance such as pollen is mixed with water, it turns acidic which will eat away at your clear coat. Once your clear coat is gone, all that is left is your vehicle’s actual paint, which results in faded and worn “spots” on the vehicle. At this point, the damage is irreversible unless repainting the vehicle.

This is where Mint Eco Car Wash comes in. We have two simple steps that can help you bring your car back to life and prevent any long-term damage, especially when it comes to pollen season:

  1. Solve the immediate problem. If you have pollen on your vehicle, we recommend coming in right away to your nearest location for our Protect tunnel wash. Our Protect wash has 26-steps in the wash process, including a special undercarriage spray with Salt Away in it, as well as multiple layers of protective wax. This wash will take the pollen off your vehicle safely, and put a protective layer between your vehicle’s clear coat and any future pollen. This makes it easier to go longer in between washes, and you can rest assured that no permanent damage is being done when the pollen bonds to the waxes instead of your paint!

  2. Create a car care routine. Living in South Florida, we recommend washing your car at least once or twice a week, especially if you park outside, or if it is during the rainy or pollen season. We designed our Unlimited Club Membership to allow our customers to save and wash as many times as they want during the week. In fact, it pays for itself on your second visit! Selecting an Unlimited Membership for your vehicle is one of the best things you can do to extend the life of your vehicle along with other routine maintenance such as oil changes, tire rotations, etc.

As a company, we always want to set the right expectations for our customers when they visit about what should happen when you wash in our tunnel. If you haven’t washed your car regularly in the last three months, your car could have deeper damage going on with your clear coat, such as mold spores, that won’t be completely removed with a tunnel wash. A situation like that would require additional hands on care from our expert detailing team to bring your car back to “MINT” condition. Our customer service experts in our driveways are trained to identify these signs on a vehicle and recommend a free detailed consultation during your visit! The best next step for you to take is to visit us, and we will take care of the rest.
